Lo Stato degli atomi (The State of the atoms)

Site specific installation for the annual congress SOU “The state of the Union” during the exhbt "In Varietate Concordia"

May-July 2023

«The particles that make up a fluid substance interact with each other, flowing into each other in a state in which matter has no shape of its own» [1]. Dialoguing with the marine decorations inside the ancient cave, a series of corals, made with tree branches covered with wax scraps of different colors, symbolize a cry for the protection and safeguarding of the environment, as well as of the numerous world communities whose rights and quality of life are not guaranteed fairly. The humidity of the internal rooms allows the small corals to survive and remain intact. On the contrary, the work, if exposed to external atmospheric agents, given the fragility of the materials, runs the risk of degrading and wearing out, to the point of generating an amalgam of multiple compositions, synonymous with the crises of our time. The possible result wants to allude to climate change and its consequences: migrations, bleaching of coral reefs and decrease of both fresh water and biodiversity fundamental for the food chain. This comparison suggests the need for social cohesion as a salvific goal, just as atoms aggregate to achieve a stable unity.
